17 Days Yangtze Spectacular
 

Day 1 Arrive Beijing
Huan Ying! You are warmly welcomed in Beijing, the imperial capital of China, and transferred to our hotel. As we drive to our hotel we get the first introduction to this majestic city and capital to the world's most populous country. Overnight Best Western Hotel, Beijing (3 nights)

Day 2 Beijing (B, L, D)
After breakfast, visit Tian'anmen Square, the largest public square in the world - the square and its periphery are home to some of China's most important monuments and government edifices. Then, tour the adjacent Forbidden City, the largest existing ancient architectural complex in China. After lunch, visit the Summer Palace - an enchanting panorama of lake, landscape, pagodas and pavilions. In the evening, we enjoy a Peking Duck Dinner. A Beijing Night Tour will be arranged.

Day 3 Beijing (B, L, D)
Today you will begin the morning by setting out to the Great Wall of China, also considered as one of the greatest wonders of the world. This massive wall stretches well over 4,000 miles and once was used as the soldier's safeguard to protect the Chinese empire's northern borders against invaders. You then have the opportunity to climb up the mammoth sized wall at your own pace. Be sure to take in the experience and enjoy the breath-taking view from the top of one of the greatest achievements of civilization. After lunch visit Changling, the tomb of Emperor Yongle (Zhu Di) - one of the Ming Tombs at the burial site of thirteen Ming Dynasty Emperors. This evening we enjoy a Beijing Acrobatic Show.

Day 4 Beijing - Xi'an (Fly) (B, L, D)
This morning we will be visiting the Temple of Heaven. Then embark on a bicycle rickshaw tour around the ancient alleyways of a Beijing Hutong - one of Beijing's rapidly vanishing 700 year-old traditional cottage neighbourhoods. Visit a family in one of the "Quadrangles". We are treated to a Dumpling Lunch at the home of one of the local families! Take the afternoon flight to Xi'an - one of China's ancient capitals. Upon arrival, visit the Ming Dynasty City Wall. This evening, you will enjoy a Xi'an Special Dumpling Banquet while being entertained by a colourful Tang Dynasty Show.

Day 5 Xi'an (B, L, D)
After breakfast, we head out to visit the Museum that housed the most exciting archaeological finds of the 20th Century - the excavation of more than 6000 Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses. In the afternoon we visit the Shaanxi Provincial Museum. This evening a Western Dinner will be served and a Xi'an Night Tour to the market in the Muslim Quarter will be arranged.

Day 6 Xi'an / Yichang - Yangtze River Cruise (Flight / Cruise) (B, L, D)
Before catching a flight to Yichang, a stop will be made to visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The towering 211.6 Feet high structure completely made of bricks originated during the Tang Dynasty when Emperor Gaozong once reigned. After dinner, you will board the deluxe European Style cruise ship (5 Star category - outside cabin with balcony).

Day 7 Yangtze Cruise (B, L, D)
This morning a shore excursion at Sandouping will take you to view the "Three Gorges Dam", the biggest dam in the world. After re-boarding your ship, you will pass through the dam's 5-Stage Ship Locks and enter the first Gorge, Xiling Gorge, the longest and previously the most hazardous one. Today enjoy the Captain's Welcome Cocktail Party, followed by a singing and dancing extravaganza.

Day 8 Yangtze Cruise (B, L, D)
After breakfast, enjoy a tracker boat ride along the deep, peaceful gorges of the Shennong Stream, with its waterfalls and magnificent peaks. We return to the ship and set sail again entering the second gorge - Wu Gorge, known for its odd, misty rock formations and its backdrop of soaring mountains. Later in the afternoon, the ship will pass the third gorge - Qutang Gorge, the shortest but the most dramatic of the Yangtze's Three Gorges with ancient relics scattered along its steep cliffs.

Day 9 Yangtze Cruise (B, L, D)
This morning we will be arriving at the "ghost city" of Fengdu. A shore excursion will take us to visit the temples on Mingshan Hill by the riverbank, which is decorated with moldings of ghosts and devils. Folklore states that this city is home to devils but some people do not put much credence in this tale. However, along with the dark side, Fengdu is one of the most beautiful areas in China, one that has a rich culture and boasts a variety of historic relics. Tonight, we enjoy the Captain's Farewell Banquet, followed by a singing and dancing performance.

Day 10 Arriving Chongqing (B, L, D)
Your cruise will terminate at Chongqing in the morning. Afternoon tour of the city includes the Chongqing Zoo to see the lovely Pandas. Located in the western suburbs of the city, the Zoo occupies an area of 45 hectares. There are some rare animals including Golden hair monkeys and South China Tigers. In Panda Room, visitors can see the giant and lesser pandas and their offsprings. Thereafter, visit Eling Park which is very popular with the locals who come here to enjoy the gardens, play Mahjohngg, make music or just relax. Nice views over the river and Chongqing, plus an enormous long painting of the Yangtze. We'll also visit the People's Square and Ciqikou Old Town if time permits. Tonight we will be treated to a Chongqing Hot Pot Dinner. Overnight Holiday Inn North Hotel, Chongqing (1 night)

Day 11 Chongqing - Guilin (Flight) (B, L, D)
This morning we are transferred to the airport for a flight to Guilin. Afternoon tour includes the Fubo Hill & Reed Flute Cave, another scenic spot in Guilin. Pay attention to the music the vendors make as they blow their flutes constructed from the actual reeds that grow outside the cave. Enjoy the radiating lights that illuminate the natural rock formation and stone pillars along the zigzag pathway within the cave. Tonight we enjoy a Guilin Folk Dance and Music Show.

Day 12 Guilin (B, L, D)
Guilin is said to be "the best scenery under heaven" for its unique karst limestone creating the picturesque beauty. This city of surreal beauty is prevalent of aromatic Osmanthus trees and is famous for its hills along the Lijiang River. You will embark on a memorable 3-hour cruise passing through the scenic landscapes of Yangshuo which allows you to witness the unique Elephant Trunk Hill and the exact location of where the image of the $20 Yuan note was photographed along the Lijiang River. We disembark at Yangshuo and stroll through some of the many colourful markets before returning by coach to Guilin. This evening, a night tour will also be arranged.

Day 13 Guilin - Shanghai - Suzhou (Flight / Drive) (B, L, D)
This morning in Guilin we visit Elephant Trunk Hill then transfer to the airport for a flight to the bustling city of Shanghai, China's largest city and seaport. Upon arrival, we take a scenic drive to Suzhou where we are transferred to our hotel. Evening free to loiter on the streets of Suzhou.

Day 14 Suzhou (B, L, D)
Head out to visit the Master-of-Nets Garden, the smallest of the Suzhou residential gardens, it is the most impressive because of its use of space which creates the illusion of an area that is much greater than its actual size before enjoying a cruise on the Grand Canal. Then visit a silk factory. Afterwards depart for the Water Village of Tongli with a history of over 1000 years. The town proper is divided by the streams into 7 islets interlaced with the surrounding water area, forming typical water county of the south. Tonight a Farewell Dinner will be arranged.

Day 15 Suzhou - Shanghai (Drive) (B, L, D)
This morning we return to Shanghai. Tour the ultra-modern Pudong Development Zone and get a closer look at the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, with an astonishing height of 468 meters, ranks as the world's third tallest TV tower, after the 553-meter CN Tower in Toronto and the 535-meter Moscow TV Tower. Next stop is the Yu Yuan Garden and Shanghai's famous People's Square. Afterwards, take a walk on the riverside promenade "The Bund". Tonight we enjoy a Shanghai Farewell Dinner. A Huangpu River Night Cruise will also be arranged. Overnight Best Western Longmen Hotel, Shanghai (2 nights)

Day 16 Shanghai (B)
Today we are taken to the downtown to visit the Bund, here the great foreign commercial houses and banks built their imposing office buildings before 1930s. A troll along the Nanjing Road, which is considered as one of the World's Seven Great Roads in the 1930s and always mentioned in travel guides as a must see of China tour, is surely an enjoyable experience to you. You have an opportunity to explore this extraordinary area on your own.

Day 17 Depart Shanghai - Home
After breakfast, bid a fond farewell to China we are transferred to the airport for the flight home.
